Hello Solar Squad,
Six months into 2026, the shakeout is still tearing through the industry.
In April, Freedom Forever… the largest residential solar installer in the U.S. by kilowatts installed filed for Chapter 11. Nearly 2 GW installed across 35 states, and roughly 190,000 homeowners left with panels on the roof and nobody to call.
They're just the latest. SunPower. Sunnova. Mosaic. Lumio. PosiGen. Titan. More than 100 U.S. solar companies have gone under since 2023 the worst collapse this industry has seen in nearly two decades.
And it isn't slowing: installs fell 27% in Q1 2026, with residential set to drop another 18% this year.
So why is this your opportunity?
Look at who's still standing.
Not the companies that scaled fastest or spent the most on ads. Freedom Forever ran that playbook better than anyone until it left 190,000 homeowners with panels on the roof, warranties in limbo, and no one answering the phone. Real families in your backyard, now telling their friends to be careful who they trust next.
That gap won't get filled by another national rollup.
It gets filled by the local operator who can say: we've been here five-plus years, here's my name, here's my number, here's 200 reviews from people down the road and here's an offer that stacks up. Time in business, a real face, proof on the wall, a strong offer. That's the formula now.
Here's where it's heading.
The Answer…
The Solar Companies we work with are doing 80-90% TPO installs currently and thriving…
With the market for solar TPO set to return to growth and these giants out of the game, this leaves huge opportunity for local companies to take that market share.
6% average annual growth expected 2027–2031 for the residential market, driven by TPO
SEIA and Wood Mackenzie see residential solar back to growth in 2027, 6% a year through 2031 with third-party ownership driving it. TPO has gone from a third of the market to the dominant model: Sunrun now expects it to be over 80% of its sales this year. Safe-harbored projects keep the tax credits through 2030.
Add rising power bills and homeowners who watched the giants fall. They're asking a new question not "who's cheapest?" but "who can I actually trust?"
The winners over the next three years won't outspend everyone on lead gen. They'll show up clearly, explain their offer honestly, and have a local name people can verify.
You don't need an empire. You need a system, a strong offer, and the right timing. All three exist right now.
